Understand how the work works

Evidence-Based Therapy Approaches

Methods matter, but no method should be imposed as a script. I explain the rationale, listen to your feedback, and adapt the work to your goals and context.

A practical method with room for the person

Therapy names can make counseling sound more technical or rigid than it needs to be. Each approach below offers a way to understand patterns, respond to difficult experiences, practice skills, or move toward what matters. The method provides structure; the counseling relationship provides context, pacing, and accountability.

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy-informed skills, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and mindfulness-based approaches. Cognitive Processing Therapy is a specialized trauma treatment for which I have received training. DBT-informed skills means I can draw from relevant principles and skills in individual counseling without representing the practice as a comprehensive DBT program.

Evidence does not mean certainty for one individual. Research can show that an approach has helped groups of people under particular conditions. Responsible use still requires attention to your safety, physical health, culture, service background, relationships, preferences, and response to the work. We can discuss what fits and change direction when needed.

What to expect

Methods are explained before they are used

You can ask what an exercise is for, how it connects to your goals, and what alternatives exist. If a worksheet, practice, or pace feels mismatched, that is useful information—not a failure. Counseling should remain collaborative and understandable.

Where we meet

Colorado and Minnesota telehealth

I am currently providing telehealth services for clients physically located in Colorado or Minnesota. The same commitment to clear goals, privacy planning, and direct feedback applies to the work within this format.

A grounded next step

You do not need to choose a therapy method alone.

Start with what has been difficult. We can discuss which approach fits the concern, your preferences, and your readiness.
